The Little Nuthatch — inspirational artists
Inspirational Artists I grew up on... Diane Stanley.
Time for another inspirational artist, from my collection childhood picture books! Diane Stanley illustrated Petrosinella, a story which is essentially Rapunzel. I always loved the art in this book. As a side note, according to her website she likes hiking and her husband is a birder!
Inspirational Artists I grew up on... Richard Scarry.
Back to inspirational artists, these are the two Richard Scarry books from my childhood collection- What Do People Do All Day? and Great Big Schoolhouse. Is my love for these books part of the reason I love to categorize things such as in my field guide art prints?
Inspirational Artists I grew up on... Cricket magazine.
Cricket magazine was a favorite magazine as a child for it's art and stories. Some of my favorite artists contributed back in the day! (80s/90s) Hilary Knight Maurice Sendak Trina Schart Hyman Hilary Knight
Inspirational Artists I grew up on... Virginia Lee Burton.
Another inspirational artist, Virginia Lee Burton wrote and illustrated many classics, including The Little House, a favorite of mine as evidenced by the sorry condition of my copy!
Inspirational Artists I grew up on on... Arnold Lobel.
Another favorite artist and author of picture books is Arnold Lobel. Owl at Home, Frog and Toad, Mouse Soup, etc... you might think they are simple books from the "I Can Read" series, being inexpensive paperbacks with few colors, but behold the beauty inside! Arnold Lobel. Owl at Home Owl at Home Frog and Toad I also loved Arnold's wife Anita Lobel's work, particularly Princess Furball.
