The 3x5 Art Challenge is going around the internet... you post 3 pieces of art for 5 days, and tag others to do the same. Foregoing the tagging, I thought I'd share mine on the good old blog.
Day 4, I present my Bird Nest Paintings. I started doing these in 2007 and went on to do many many many more... 39 at this time! These are watercolors with mixed media/found objects- nests and leaves, etc made up of yarn, thread, beads, buttons, vintage fabric, sticks, dried flowers, etc. So many possibilities! These are a lot of fun to make and I'm glad that people like them so I've been able to do a lot!
This was my first one from 2007. This was before I started birding and it is a generic green bird. No. 1:
This is my FAVORITE bird nest, the 21st one I did. It is a Red-Breasted Nuthatch. My boyfriend suggested I ad the little frame of the nuthatch couple on their wedding day, it is an adorable touch and probably the reason why it's my favorite! No. 21:
My latest piece that I have photographed (39 isn't photographed yet) was done on request and is a Swainson's Warbler. No. 38:
