What might be in a bird nest.

bird nest paintings

What could be in this adorable Hello Kitty case?

This is where I keep all the little trinkets I collect for my bird nest paintings. First, we have natural things like dried flowers and acorns I've collected on walks.

Then, we have colored thread, beads, buttons, charms, and clock parts. Some things I have in here have yet to incorporated into any bird nest, such as sequins, rhinestones, and small shells.

In the bottom of the case is a mess of embroidery floss, little bits of yarn and ribbon, lace, fake flowers and leaves, fabric, papers. I have some bits of green velvet ribbon, corduroy fabric, and a sheer scarf- all vintage- which are some of my favorite materials that I've used for leaves.

When I start a new painting, I first pick out a bunch of materials that I might want to use in it. Here is what I've collected for the piece I am currently working on:

The blue is tissue paper, something new to try. These won't all end up getting used in the piece, of course. They will be cut up, painted on, and... who knows? Only time will tell. But it's always fun to collect new trinkets and pick out the next bits to be used in a piece.
