The Little Nuthatch — field guide paintings
Field guide painting: Grosbeaks of North America.
My latest field guide, the Grosbeaks of North America. Wow, what a beautiful group of birds! So I kind of have this idea that I am going to paint all the birds of North America that I have not yet painted in my other field guides. I like having a big project to work on. Most will be stand alone, probably little 5x7 paintings, but when I saw the Grosbeaks to paint I just thought they belonged together! This painting includes: Black-headed Grosbeak Blue Grosbeak Crimson-collared Grosbeak Evening Grosbeak Pine Grosbeak Rose-breasted Grosbeak Yellow Grosbeak
Moths.
I recently finished another field guide painting, this one of moths, matching to the butterflies I did previously. These moths are all the very large ones: Atlas Moth Black Witch Moth Cecropia Moth Comet Moth Death's-head Hawk Moth Emperor Gum Moth Imperial Moth Luna Moth Polyphemus Moth And here are the butterflies I did last year:
Burrowing Animals.
My latest field guide is a little bit different, Burrowing Animals. They are so cute! Prints have been made and will be up in the shop soon.
Field Guide Painting: Thrush, Wrens, etc.
I finished! This is my last field guide painting from the Merritt Island, Florida bird list. It includes Thrush, Wrens, and the last few others. I started the project in May 2010. Almost 3 years later and having painted 270 birds, I have learned so much! I started in hopes that in painting all the birds I would become better at identifying the birds here. It has helped tremendously, but I still have a long way to go and a lot more to learn. This project was just the beginning. Check out all the birds together... (This is the bird...
Sea Creatures Painting.
New painting! It's a Sea Creatures chart. It's not specific like my birds paintings, it features "general" sea creatures... Whale, Shark, Dolphin, Octopus, Eel, Seahorse, Jellyfish, Stingray, and Turtle. Prints are 13x19 and available in the shop. I would love to do some more specific charts of sea creatures but they're so mysterious living under the sea, and there is much still unknown... making it a lot more difficult to study and paint charts!
