The Little Nuthatch — field guide paintings

I finished! This is my last field guide painting from the Merritt Island, Florida bird list. It includes Thrush, Wrens, and the last few others. I started the project in May 2010. Almost 3 years later and having painted 270 birds, I have learned so much! I started in hopes that in painting all the birds I would become better at identifying the birds here. New painting! It's a Sea Creatures chart. It's not specific like my birds paintings, it features "general" sea creatures... Whale, Shark, Dolphin, Octopus, Eel, Seahorse, Jellyfish, Stingray, and Turtle.   Prints are 13x19 and available in the shop. I would love to do some more specific charts of sea creatures but they're so mysterious living under the sea, and there is much still unknown... making it a lot more difficult to study and paint charts!

I have had many requests for this field guide painting... butterflies! Featuring Buckeye, Mourning Cloak, Viceroy, Monarch, Red Admiral, Queen, Question Mark, Great Swallowtail,  and Great Spangled Fritillary. I already made prints and put them up in the shop.

Penguins are done!

Last month I did this painting of the birds of Eastern North Carolina. This was a commission, and such a fun project. I'd love to do more specialized field guide paintings for areas all over the world!   While most of the birds in my paintings are the colorful male birds, it was requested that I include the female cardinal in this one. I was happy to oblige, they are such beautiful birds!   I will have prints of this in my shop shortly.
