The Little Nuthatch — insects
What are you, little buggy?
Oh, summer. I love the beach, and the afternoon rain, and most especially all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season. Here is a cute little buggy I was admiring the other day... What is it?
Wild blackberries.

Yesterday afternoon I went picking wild blackberries and blueberries. The blackberries are plentiful all along the road sides and hiking trails around here. The wild blueberries are harder to find, they are small bushes low to the ground, smaller than the blueberries available at the store, but just as delicious. It's really a great feeling to go get food right from the wild. Here is what I picked: And some photos from the trail... Saw many tortoise on the trail. This one eating grass... so adorable. Passion fruit flower... I wonder when passion fruits are in season? It is certainly...
Black Hammock.

I went to the Black Hammock trail this week, it was my first time there. It starts out lush and beautiful, with some lovely boardwalks. Really really nice. Unfortunately it then turns into a trail that is wide, sunny with no shade, mostly palmettos, and with areas that have been cut down or burned. Most of the trail is like this. I did see some wildlife- birds, a turtle, a snake (perhaps a pygmy rattlesnake? I'm not sure), and baby ducks!!
The explorations of Tosohatchee.

Tosohatchee State Reserve has an amazing network of trails on 28000 acres. This week my friend Marissa and I went to explore there once again. This time we saw wild turkeys, armadillos, families of cows right on the trail, turtles, alligators, and maaaaaany birds. Spring is in full swing and there are wildflowers EVERYWHERE. Like, SO MANY TYPES that I have not seen ANYWHERE ELSE! I love this place!! (I hardly have any photos considering all the awesome things I saw.) See the alligator? That one is a baby but I saw a huuuge one too. Twig caterpillar: Can't wait...
Beading bracelets.
Over the weekend I did some beading with my Mom. I NEVER do beading, but my Mom had started making these peyote stitch bracelets and she showed me how to do it. Once you start going it's kind of addictive, they take several hours to make but I didn't even notice the time passing. My bracelet turned out pretty crazy. I looked up the peyote stitch on the internet and most of the bracelets are pretty organized. The ones my Mom made have little sections of one type of bead, and they look very elegant. The next bracelet I made...
