The Kingfisher is the coolest looking bird. I've seen them a lot in town this Winter, they've become quite common, but I'm still thrilled by them. Every time I see one I have to point it out. Of course, when I see them in town they are on power lines near retention ponds, and I am always driving. Otherwise, you can see them at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, and I get so frustrated because they are always flying AWAY from me! This bird in flight makes me laugh... All the birds looked cold like this. All tucked in. How cute are armadillos? They are so small and remind me of bunnies, but with armor. Those pelicans where at the Manatee Observation Deck, but unfortunately no manatees.

Attempting to birdwatch.

Black Point Drive (birdwatching drive) was closed due to heavy rains when I tried to go this week, but that didn't stop me from seeing some birds from the road. (And an alligator in the road! Sorry I didn't get a photo of that!) There were Roseate Spoonbill, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Tri Colored Heron, and Glossy Ibis, all hanging out together!

Black Point Drive is bird watching drive with trails that is part of Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. It is one of my favorite places. Every time I go I enjoy looking at the birds, and it's like this-- "That's a heron. No, an egret... A white egret...?" Oh, a Great Egret.
