The Little Nuthatch
Costa Rican birds.
My friend Debbie recently went to Costa Rica and brought me a guide to Costa Rican birds! Wow, they are so beautiful and colorful! I sure would love to go birdwatching there, especially to see a Resplendent Quetzal. Here is a page from my sketchbook with some of the birds I found interesting.
The Sandhill Crane.
Sandhill Cranes... they are EVERYWHERE here. Always in couples with their young ones following closely. You'll see the same family every day, I enjoy the familiarity, just as I enjoy watching the blue jay family in the backyard. I live at an apartment, so there are not many birds to observe. The cranes I do worry about a little, as I often find them standing in the middle of the road! They are very bold! Here are some photos I took a few days ago.
Walk in the woods.
Yesterday was my birthday. We went to see Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World which was very good, geeky, and awesome! The rest of the weekend was low key which is the way I like it. Today I braved the heat and bugs and took some photos outside. Found some cool things!
Bird nests, robin and nuthatch.
I've moved this blog from pencilshavings.net, here to katedolamore.com, where it will permanently reside for the rest of it's days. Please update your links! And now-- two new nest paintings! Nest no. 20: Pekin Robin Nest no. 21: Nuthatch Aaaah I am loving this little nuthatch in it's nestbox with a wedding picture on the wall! That was my boyfriends idea and I think it is too cute! Prints are already up on etsy!
Attempting to birdwatch.
Black Point Drive (birdwatching drive) was closed due to heavy rains when I tried to go this week, but that didn't stop me from seeing some birds from the road. (And an alligator in the road! Sorry I didn't get a photo of that!) There were Roseate Spoonbill, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Tri Colored Heron, and Glossy Ibis, all hanging out together!
