The Little Nuthatch

What a nice day at the beach with my Mom. We got out there by 8am. The sky was gorgeous, rays of sun... It was cloudy and good for taking some photos. Walked a long way down the beach, then had some yummy salad while watching the ocean, and played in the water for a bit. Most of the people at the beach this morning were fishing. You could see the fish jumping in the waves! Camouflage crab. We stopped to pick wildflowers on the way home! The best.

I previously posted about drawing all the birds from the Black Point Drive birdwatching list, and starting with the "Herons, Egrets, Ibis, Spoonbill" list. Here is the finished painting: The idea was that I would learn more about the birds, while at the same time having fun creating some art. Definitely worked with this first piece. I really wish it was birding season so I could go test out my skills in identifying these long-legged waders! Next up is "Vultures, Hawks, Falcons, and Osprey". Yesterday afternoon I went picking wild blackberries and blueberries. The blackberries are plentiful all along the road sides and hiking trails around here. The wild blueberries are harder to find, they are small bushes low to the ground, smaller than the blueberries available at the store, but just as delicious. Black Point Drive is bird watching drive with trails that is part of Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. It is one of my favorite places. Every time I go I enjoy looking at the birds, and it's like this-- "That's a heron. No, an egret... A white egret...?" Oh, a Great Egret.
