Another favorite artist and author of picture books is Arnold Lobel. Owl at Home, Frog and Toad, Mouse Soup, etc... you might think they are simple books from the "I Can Read" series, being inexpensive paperbacks with few colors, but behold the beauty inside! Arnold Lobel. Owl at Home Owl at Home Frog and Toad I also loved Arnold's wife Anita Lobel's work, particularly Princess Furball.

Birds of Prey: Red-shouldered Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk.

More birds of prey studies here, the Red-shouldered Hawk and the Red-tailed Hawk. Hawks have a lot of different color variations, it can be difficult to identify them. To the inexperienced birder around here, the question is often... "Red-shouldered or Red-tailed?"   Also, there is an incorrect fact about the Red-tailed Hawk above. Although my Audubon guidebook stated the Red-tailed Hawk as the largest in the United States, they recently informed me that it is the largest hawk in FLORIDA and the largest hawk in the United States is actually the Ferruginous Hawk.
