Weather is getting nice! I went to one of my favorite trails and found it to be quite grown over! But grown over with pretty grasses and flowers at least. The Black Vulture is kind of cute, isn't it?

Eastern Phoebe.

I saw an Eastern Phoebe at one of the lakes on my street a few days ago. Today I saw Catbirds. What a delight to have these charming birds returning from their Summer up North! In this little painting I was experimenting with Walnut Ink Crystals on watercolor paper for the background, the bird drawn in pencil with a light wash of watercolor over top.

Bird Nest No. 27: Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

Bird Nest painting No. 27 is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. This is a female so she doesn't have the ruby throat though. I used beads, tissue paper, lace, and an old postage stamp in this one. I am planning on doing some more hummingbird nests in the future- definitely with the chicks!

Bird Nest painting No. 26 is a Golden-crowned Kinglet. This one has pressed flowers and leaves in the nest. I love the pressed flowers, they are so delicate.

Hawaiian Birds: Elepaio.

Here is another Hawaiian bird, the Elepaio. There are a few subspecies of this bird, the one I painted is the Hawaii Elepaio. They are such cuties!
