The Little Nuthatch
A walk around St. Augustine.
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting St. Augustine, Florida's most historical town, currently celebrating it's 450th anniversary. Here are some photos I took while walking around town looking at all the old houses. While there I visited the Lightner Museum and can highly recommend the mechanical music demonstration. Additionally, Kookaburra Coffee and fried green tomato tacos at The Blue Hen are a must to return for!
Florida Winter.
little big econ state forest raccoon
And I end with this raccoon sleeping in a tree. In such a tight little ball, reminded me of my cat. It would not stir!
Washington Oaks Beach.
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is beautiful, with big mossy oaks and views of the Matanzas River. But for me, the real amazing part was the beachside. It's a unique beach in Florida because of the coquina rocks that create tidal pools full of barnacles, anemone, and other treasure. There are little streams of running water, and waves crashing against the rocks in the water- peaceful and exciting at the same time.
3x5 Art Challenge Day 5.
The 3x5 Art Challenge is going around the internet... you post 3 pieces of art for 5 days, and tag others to do the same. Foregoing the tagging, I thought I'd share mine on the good old blog. Day 5, my most recent "thing" is my field guide paintings. I started doing these in order to better learn to identify my local birds. I started by painting all the birds of Merritt Island NWR. This was my first one, from 2010: My favorite, Burrowing Animals: Another favorite, Sloths:
3x5 Art Challenge Day 4.
The 3x5 Art Challenge is going around the internet... you post 3 pieces of art for 5 days, and tag others to do the same. Foregoing the tagging, I thought I'd share mine on the good old blog. Day 4, I present my Bird Nest Paintings. I started doing these in 2007 and went on to do many many many more... 39 at this time! These are watercolors with mixed media/found objects- nests and leaves, etc made up of yarn, thread, beads, buttons, vintage fabric, sticks, dried flowers, etc. So many possibilities! These are a lot of fun to make...
