Friday night we had thunderstorms, followed by an incredibly windy Saturday, and a freezing cold Sunday. One of those days that while cold is bright and sunny and beautiful! A great day to be out. The birds, however, looked like they weren't too happy about the temperature... T he coolest thing I saw was 100 or so American White Pelicans flying over. Seemed like they just kept on coming... such large and graceful birds.

So many birds at the bird feeder up in North Carolina! Tufted Titmouse: Goldfinch: White Breasted Nuthatch: Dark-eyed Junco: House Finch: jumping! Downy Woodpecker: Red-bellied Woodpecker: I also saw Brown-headed Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Cardinal, Blue Jay, Pileated Woodpecker, Dove, Carolina Wren, and of course Carolina Chickadee. A Bluebird showed up a few hours after I headed back home! Maybe next time... It's so much to see what will be there every morning.
In the forest.
I love fall! But sadly we had a high of 85 today.

Hopefully I can locate my sketchbook among my packed boxes and work on some Daily Animal Doodles! In the meantime here are some photos from a couple weeks ago, they...

I spent last weekend out at Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. Saturday was a beach day, it felt amazing! But the water is still too cold. I saw a Crested Caracara on the way home which was the most exciting bird sighting of the day, sadly I was driving down a busy road at 60 mph at the time. Sunday was specifically for birdwatching, down Bio-Lab Road. Days later I am still itching from the all the mosquitoes, but it was worth it! Most of the birds were far from the road and not good for photographing, but fun to watch...
